Water Weight
Such a big message this one for women. I’ll say it as many times as I need to in as many ways as I can!
Water retention is a mind fuck. With my girls the scale weight is only one marker of progress because it is totally unreliable. I can go up or down 4 pounds depending on the water I’m carrying and I can go from abs to 3 months pregnant in the space of a day. My body is pretty cyclical so I’ll carry more water around my period but many women find it is unpredictable, though most women tend to retain more around the time of their cycle.
When coming up to a Bikini comp there is lots of talk about water retention! It’s a big deal on stage. It can make or break success. Yet it is fleeting and not a measure of actual body fat. When dealing with fat loss many women get disheartened by scale weight even when the tape measure shows inches lost. When did we get so fixated on the scale as a marker of success in fat loss? A stool can easily put the scale up or down a couple pounds! If you’re building muscle the scale can even go up at first. If we could just get off this idea of scale fascination and even look at fat loss as one measurement of success and consider other variables like, energy, health, fitness, strength, improvements in agility and body awareness, body intelligence and understanding nutrition, then we’d have greater success because we’d be motivated to continue. Instead of moving into self criticising habits of thought which ultimately sabotage progress.
On my program if something isn’t working right we change it, we find a solution and work at it. We don’t take it or water weight personally right girls? From now on.
Our bodies fluctuate. What a trip it is to be a woman! Beautiful, dynamic, dancing, watery, woman. The scales cannot measure that.
