The 7 Deadly Sins of Savasana

The 7 Deadly Sins of Savasana

Are you new to yoga and unsure of the rules of savasana? Do you know what it is and why we do it? Read on my friend so you too can pretend you're lying there knowing exactly what you're doing. These are the 7 Deadly Savasana sins to avoid at all costs.

• Thou shalt not talk. It's called corpse pose for a reason.

• Thou shalt not move. You are working for a state of meditation. Moving about unsettles the mind. Stay still and let stillness guide you into deep inner-peace.

• Thou shalt not do Ujjayi breathing. I know you're proud of your deep Ujjayi breath, I'm proud of you too but there's a time and a place. Rest in natural breathing with no force.

• Thou shalt not leave before the class is over. Unless you've spoken to your yoga teacher about leaving early then know that this is a massive faux pas. It's like you came to yoga and missed the ENTIRE point.

• Thou shalt not lie there with eyes wide open looking at the ceiling. The visual eye sight is very dominant. Unless you are a master meditator closing them will help bring a deeper state of relaxation.

• Thou shalt not sleep. You're supposed to be meditating. Focus on your breathing and sensations in the body to give the mind a relaxed focus when you are in danger of the dreaded savasana snore.

• Thou shalt not bring a phone to class and forget to turn it off. Oh is there anything worse than hearing your own terrible ring tone blaring out all over class during savasana? Shame level 10+.

Just lie there, be quiet and bliss out yogis! (Turn your phone off!)

It's all Shanti.
