Why Flexible Nutrition?

Why Flexible Nutrition?

I use a mixed approach to shifting body composition with my clients. I use both flexible nutrition and mindful eating to get my clients results that last. Sometimes I’ll use more of one than the other depending on the client’s goals but most of my clients will be exposed to the flexible nutrition philosophy at some point.

Shifting body composition successfully is walking a fine line between building muscle and losing fat. To build muscle, focus on two main factors : weight training and protein consumption- your muscle wont grow if you don’t challenge them or feed them.

There are many reasons why I choose this approach. Have you heard of it? Do you know what it is?

Below I’ll outline ten reasons I prefer flexible nutrition as a pathway to success.

  1. Flexible nutrition means you can include foods you love.

  2. No food is off limits as long as it fits your macros.

  3. Macro counting allows you to understand the energy balance of your food and therefore empowers you to understand how to apply nutrition long after this program is over.

  4. It teaches you the principles of fat loss, maintaining or fat gain depending on your goal.

  5. Flexible nutrition allows more room to flow with the natural hormonal cycles.

  6. The female body is an expert in holding onto fat, if the diet is too restrictive or the body moves into scarcity mode the likely result is a binge. Flexible nutrition means you can include foods you enjoy and macros can be adjusted to meet your needs and the result is that you are much more likely to stick to the program.

  7. When working to build strength it is important to understand the correct energy balance of food to fuel your workouts, counting macros does this.

  8. It’s much easier to transition into a maintenance zone from flexible nutrition and you’re much more likely to keep your results.

  9. This approach removes the fear mindset surrounding food.

  10. This approach gives you the knowledge with which to understand how to manage your food in social situations and in the obesogenic environment in which we live .

Changing your body composition is going to take time, and it is going to take come serious effort. However the rewards will be great because the changes you make will last.

Don’t forget that your diet plays an important role as well. Make sure you monitor your energy balance to get the deficit you need for fat loss to occur
